It’s Almost Over

By Wes (May 7, 2006 @ 12:22 am)

Wow – it has been a while. If you all are still checking this, know that we are doing well and plugging away here in Nairobi. Since our last posting, things have gotten quite busy for me – coaching volleyball, attending Masters classes, teaching, getting our portfolio stocked with what we need for Julia’s adoption, and just the regular stuff of life.
The school year is rushing headlong to its end, and there’s only 3 weeks left of school before our long ‘summer’ break (really its winter here, but still not so bad). Ezra is ready for a break, and I think we all are. We are expecting Jean’s parents to come June 1 and stay with us for a few weeks – this will be the first family that have come to visit us (first visitors for us actually), and so we are very much looking forward to showing them around and having them in our home. I’m sure they’re pretty excited about meeting Julia and seeing how huge our boys have gotten. We’ll be heading off to Turtle Bay for a few days with them, and then Jean and I will be jetting off to Lamu to celebrate our anniversary for a couple of days.
We’ve also moved! Since our family has now grown to 5, we were asked if we were interested in moving into one of the new houses on campus, and after looking at it, we decided we just couldn’t refuse 2 bathrooms and a whole lot more space. Its got a great view of the green valley below us, and our new plants and grass are coming up nicely. The boys love their new big room (they got the ‘master’ bedroom and ensuite, and Julia has her own room now too, which is really nice and quiet. Overall, yet another blessing that God has been so good to provide us with.
Adoption-wise, we are officially and legally fostering right now, and in June we will be able to start adoption proceedings. In Kenya, the child must be with you for 3 months minimum in a fostering arrangement before you can start to adopt. Hopefully, we’ll have what we need ready for then, and apply as soon as we can. We’re probably looking at a 10 month process from when we start – which (God willing) will allow us to bring her home during our furlough next June. Some of you may be wondering if we are planning to renew our contract out here for another two years after this next school year – well, we don’t have to give notification until October, and so are just planning on enjoying our time here without being harried by this big decision yet. So, short answer is, we don’t know yet.
Alright, I’m going to try to get some new pictures up today, so I’ll cut this short. Thank you for praying for us, and please continue to uphold our health and the adoption process in prayer to our God. He can do all things…
Blessings -
Wes
