Inclement Weather!?
So, we?ve been having some crazy weather over here in Nairobi over the last few weeks. The talk is that it?s the rainy season (duh?it?s been raining everyday!), and that more is on the way. Flooding is quite a problem all over Kenya as a result ? some areas are especially hard hit. You can imagine what a torrential downpour (when it rains, it rains) would do to the ground in a slum area cramped with people in already poor conditions.
Check out pictures of last week?s big storm ? the rain was coming sideways with the wind ? it was incredible! We are so blessed to have a nice warm dry house! The water was coming down the hill in front of our house, down our stone wall and the steps ? a nice water feature some would say. It has rained so much over the last few weeks, and they are calling for more in the coming days. We?re not minding it so much, but I know there are quite a few that are ready to be done with the inclement weather, so they can enjoy the usual warm sunny weather that Nairobi is famous for during December.
Which brings us to the fact that it is November already (yes, I deserve to be punished for my lack of blogging?), and lots has happened. To make this more readable, and less like a Dostoyevsky novel, I?ll be brief and to the point in recollecting the latest happs:
1. Julia is 1! On November 1, her birthday, she began to walk and has been truly toddling ever since, working on her skills and speed daily. What a beautiful thing to see ? she is so proud of her accomplishments. And so are we!
2. Adoption is moving ahead! We just this past Wednesday had an in office interview with a guy called Madahana who works in the Children?s Services Dept. It was two hours of our family history and great questions like, ? why do you want to adopt this child?? Now he will come for a home visit on December 6 and see that she?s got a real live home and family. Please keep praying!
3. Batemans in Kenya! We are still reminiscing about the Bateman visit to our home in October and early November. It was so great to see them, laugh with them and talk with them, as we watched our kids bond and begin lifelong friendships with their cousins. R, J, and A, thanks for coming to Nairobi!
4. MAL classes all but over! Wes? masters studies are drawing to a close. He finished his 10 and final course last weekend, and so has his major research project to do before June.
5. Cultural fun! This week, Ez and Zay were involved in the cultural richness celebration at school, where stories, food and information from the variety of Rosslyn?s student cultures were shared. It was a great day, and a lot of fun for the guys and the rest of the students.
6. Thanksgiving?again! Friday the 24th, we celebrated Thanksgiving day with our American friends here on campus. A good feast with all the trimmings was consumed, along with a lot of talking and laughing. Ahhh, turkey comas for everyone!
7. Christmas is coming! Yes, this semester of school is rapidly drawing to a close (this year, hols start on the 15!), and so much is to be done before now and then. We are definitely ready for the break, and look forward to good family times of relaxation and fun. We?ll be doing some trips during the 3 weeks we have off, and so we?ll get back to you on those events too.
Well, that?s enough for today. Hope that gives you an idea of why I haven?t blogged in the recent months (ok, and it also had to do with my procrastination issues!). Hope all of you have a very meaningful and merry advent season. Make sure you stop by the gallery for some pictures. L8R. ~~~The Enns?
